WELWYN HILLY - LEMSFORD - FRIDAY 9TH APRIL 2004
Report by Andy Lancaster
Six North Roaders were down to start on a very cold,
almost frosty morning - temperatures around 4 degrees, the sun
struggling to break through a slight mist, for the Welwyn Hilly 50K Time
Trial. I was off first at 8.18 am. As I
rode up Digswell Hill my fingers burning with cold and my nose running I
wondered whether it might have been a better idea to stay in bed!
However, since I was there I pushed on to Hitchin where the course
turned left and
left again onto the Hitchin Luton road, and at the next left turning I
was greeted by Graham Thompson at the foot of Offley Hill. I composed
myself after the top and began to settle down as the temperatures rose
slightly to
finish in 1 32 59.
Tony Bradford was the fastest North Roader 1 25 11, closely followed by
Neil Lewis 1 26 13, then me, then Alan Harvey 1 36 08. Chris Glithero
followed with 1 37 03. Richard Somerset was a DNS due to a heavy cold
but bravely rode out to support us.
The event was won by Tony Gibb in 1 10 38
