ESSEX ROADS CC - 70KM, EAST HANNINGFIELD - SUNDAY 28TH MARCH
Tony Bradford and Frank Rawlings
competed in the Essex Road CC Road Race on Sunday. In a reversal
of roles in this race it was Frank who punctured with Tony completing
the event and taking 9th place. The 44 mile long race was
run over a course on roads to the east of Chelmsford. The
pace was high from the off with a steady stream of riders attacking,
trying to break away from the main group. The main feature of
the course is a kilometre long hill climbed on 5 occasions through
this race. Several of the small groups that struck out from the peloton
were brought back to the fold as they fought this incline. As
the race entered its final lap the pace intensified and as the main
body of the pack drew itself up for the final kilometres of the race a
touch of wheels sent riders scattering to the tarmac. In the
final climb Bradford made up places lost following the crash and
stormed across the line to score 2 points towards his 2nd Category
racing licence.
