Race 10 - 27th June

 

Standard course

Ideal conditions for racing brought out the best in North Road Cycling Club’s riders as over half the competitors recorded their best times of the season in Round 10 of the Ken Davis Salver at Brickendon Green. Dave Candy collected his ninth victory and the maximum 30 points as he came past the finishing line in 22 seconds minutes, 45 seconds ahead of second placed Darren Rochford – who rode his best time of the year. Also riding his best time around the 9.3 mile circuit was Chris Symonds, who took third (23:14). Nick Ison, Nick Harris, Chris Glithero, Glyn Teare, Donald Hale, Tony Shoesmith, Nick Hunter and Paul Groves joined Darren and Chris riding their best times of the year. Alan Harvey and Gemma Sperrin rode their first event of the season. The overall winner was Mark Allen (Orange Monkey) with a time of 21:34.

RACE 9 -20th June

On a windy night at Brickendon Green normal service was resumed in Round Nine of the Ken Davis Salver. Dave Candy took his eighth victory, after ruining his chances of a clean sweep by finishing runner-up in Round Eight. Dave clocked a time of 22:35 with Richard Somerset following him with 23:25 to collect another 27 points. Despite a 30 second late start penalty, third place went to Bruce Metheringham.

RACE 8 - 13th June

Despite flash floods, eleven riders braved the elements and tackled the North Road Cycling Club Brickendon Green “10”, back on the original circuit. Five North Roaders were competing in the Ken Davis Salver with four guest riders. It was a good night for Darren Rochford, relegating the seven time winner, Dave Candy to second place. Darren beat Dave by just one second to take the 30 points. Darren came past the finish line in 23:05. In third place was Leigh Taylor, finishing two minutes and two seconds down from Dave, she was followed by Chris Glithero and Nick Hunton finishing in 26:24 and 29:14 respectively. Donald Hale (33:58) and Barry Thurgood (35:38) rode a two-up. The overall winner of the night was Paul Beales (Orange Monkey) in 22:03.

RACE 7 - 6th June

 

Bayford course

 

Seven rides and seven wins for the in form Dave Candy in Round Seven of the North Road Cycling Club Ken Davis Salver, he also took the honours to be the overall winner of the night out of 25 riders. On a pleasant night for racing he
completed the 11.75 mile circuit in 28:20, knocking 15 seconds off his personal best, he finished in 28:20. Once again Richard Somerset took the second spot for the third week on the trot, just beating Darrren Rochford by one second. Richard finished in 29:56. Darren, Bruce Metheringham, Chris Symonds, John McDowall, Glyn Teare, Nick Hunton and Paul Groves rode their best times around the changed circuit.

RACE 6 - 30th May

 

Bayford course

 

In better conditions for the North Road Cycling Club popular Brickendon Green “10” every rider beat their Round 5 times. There is nothing stopping Dave Candy in the Ken Davis, even with the 2005 Champion Roger Bishop riding his first Salver event of the season. Still riding on the longer course, Dave Candy finished with a time of 28:35, collecting his sixth maximum points, and was the overall winner of the night with five guest riders participating. Another good performance by Richard Somerset, he came past the time keeper in 29:47 to take the 27 points. Bruce Metheringham, having a good season so far took the third position nine seconds behind Richard. Joint fourth position went to George Olive and Darren Rochford both with a time of 30:19, followed by Roger.
