RACE 19 - 30th Aug

George Olive produced a superlative display in the final round of the Ken Davis Salver. Not only win Round 19, but he knocked 46 seconds off his personal best and was the overall winner on the night. George covered the Brickendon Green course in 22:44 taking 19 seconds out of runner-up Chris Symonds. Roger Bishop and Dave Candy were both missing, they having been confirmed as the 2005 Salver Champion and runner-up respectively. The 2004 champion, Darren Rochford, finished third to secure the bronze medal. Gemma Sperrin also rode her personal best zipping past the time keeper in 28:37.

The top three positions (points based on their best 10 rides): Roger Bishop, rode 12, 300 points; Dave Candy, rode 15, 282 points; Darren Rochford, rode 10, 269 points.

RACE 18 - 23rd Aug

Rider Roger Bishop claimed North Road Cycling Club’s 2005 Ken Davis Salver with a round to spare. Roger was crowned series champion, even though he did not participate in round 18. Dave Candy, his nearest rival, unfortunately punctured and did not finish the course. This allowed defending champion Darren Rochford to take his third victory of the season coming past the time keeper in 23:13. Darren was 42 seconds faster than second-placed George Olive. Third place went to Nick Ison, with a time of 24:05. He was followed by Chris Glithero, who just beat Leigh Taylor by one second, passing the finishing line in 24:52. Leigh Slashed 25 seconds off her personal best with 24:53. She was followed by Jim Ewers, Richard Norris, Don Hale, Ken Lush and Paul Groves. The overall winner was Whitewebbs’ Mark Allen in a time of 22:30.

RACE 17 - 16th Aug

 

With only two more rounds of the Ken Davis Salver at Brickendon Green, it looks like Roger Bishop will be the 2005 champion. Despite riding his best time of the year in Round 17, Dave Candy could not catch the in form Roger, who collected the 30 points, in a time of 22:27, with Dave six seconds behind. Third place went to Richard Somerset, also riding his best time of the year, in a time of 23:21. Knocking seven seconds off his personal best, John McDowall took fourth position, coming past the time keeper in 23:23. Second rider to ride his personal best was Nick Ison in 24 minutes. Also riding their best times of the year, were Richard Norris, Tim Jenkins and Brian Goodwin with times of 25:41, 27:06 and 27:07 respectively. Ken Lush rode his first race of the season, after a seven year absence. The overall winner was James Parker (Blue Sky Cycles) with a time of 22:21.

RACE 16 - 8th Aug

 

Dave Candy took full advantage of Roger Bishop absence, by collecting the 30 points on offer. He managed to cover the Brickendon Green circuit in 22:36 in Round 16 of the Ken Davis Salver. In second place, Chris Symonds rode his personal best, coming across the line in 23:13. Third spot was taken by George Olive, finishing in 23:41 closely followed by Richard Somerset, only two seconds behind. Trevor Burke rode his personal best, knocking 10 seconds off his previous best. Mike Harvey and Gemma Sperrin rode their best times of the year, 27:21 and 28:32 respectively. Hugh Vivian was the overall winner of the night, with a time of 21:42.

RACE 15 - 2nd Aug

 

Twenty four riders tackled North Road Cycling Club’s Brickendon Green “10” on a breezy night. Thirteen of those competing battled for honours in Round 15 of the Ken Davis Salver. Once again Roger Bishop took top spot. He carried on from the previous week and took the 30 points to increase his lead over second-place Dave Candy by another three points. Roger now leads the series with 297 points and Dave is in the runners-up position with a total of 279. Dave came second 14 seconds behind Roger and 40 seconds in front of third-placed Chris Symonds. Alan Harvey equalled his best time of the year, coming past the finishing line in seventh place. George Clark also rode his best time of the year with 26:42.

RACE 14 - 26th July

 

Another good turn out for North Road Cycling Club’s Brickendon Green “10” with 15 North Roaders competing for Round 14 of the Ken Davis Salver. Absent in Round 13 Roger Bishop returned and took the 30 points with a time of 22:30 with last week’s winner Dave Candy taking the runners up spot, coming past the finishing line in his best time of the year, 22:41. After missing for five weeks, the 2004 Ken Davis Salver winner, Darren Rochford took the third position with 23:28, just beating John McDowall by two seconds. John took 13 seconds off his personal best, coming past the time keeper in 23:30. Paul Groves rode his best time of the year, taking two seconds off his previous best. George Clark, his second ride of the competition, equalled his best time of the year. The overall winner was Hugh Vivian with a time of 21:59.

RACE 13 - 19th July

 

An accident on White Stubbs Lane didn’t stop North Road Cycling Club’s Brickendon Green “10”. Eleven North Roaders competed for Round 13 of the Ken Davis Salver. With second-placed Roger Bishop missing, Dave Candy increased his overall series lead by 30 points. The winner of this year’s Furzefield Triathlon in Potters Bar took first place in a time of 23:18. In second place was Tony Bradford, riding only his second event of the season. He came in with a time of 24:21, followed by Richard Somerset, taking third position and collecting the 25 points. Due to windy conditions, Bob Wade was the only rider not to lose time and he equalled his best of the year with 26:20. Richard Norris, rode his first ride of the competition in 27:32. The overall winner on the night was Paul Beales, the Orange Monkey team rider crossing the finishing line in 22:02.

RACE 12 - 12th July

 

Another three personal bests were broken in Round 12 of the Ken Davis Salver. Twenty-two riders competed in North Road Cycling Club’s popular Brickendon Green “10”, with 14 from the promoting club challenging for points in the Salver series on a hot and sunny night. The first personal best was clocked by the winner, Roger Bishop. He came past the finishing line in 22:18 to take the 30 points and is now only 10 points behind the leader. Chris Symonds, riding his first event in North Road colours, took 27 points with a time of 22:55. Dave Candy was relegated to third position after crossing the line four seconds over the 23 minutes. Fourth place went to Jonathan Appleby in a time of 23:27, with Nick Ison fifth and Chris Glithero sixth. Allan Mendelsohn and Stuart Leggett filled the next two places. The other two personal bests went to Leigh Taylor (25:18) and Gemma Sperrin (19:12), riding her second event. Don Hale also clocked his best time of the year with 25:55. George Clark rode his first event for a few years and came past the time keeper in 26:46. The overall winner on the night was James Parker from Blue Sky Cycles in a time of 21:44.

RACE 11 - 5th July

 

Just seven riders braved the elements on a very wet and windy night for North Road Cycling Club’s Brickendon Green “10” with four North Roaders competing for Round 11 of the Ken Davis Salver. Roger Bishop completed a hat-trick of wins after completing the circuit in 23:04. Ken Davis Salver leader Dave Candy once again took the runners up spot with a time of 24:25. The two remaining North Road riders, Allan Mendelsohn and Gianni Altomare, followed with times of 26:33 and 30:27 respectively.

Race 10 - 28th June

 

In Round 10 of the North Road Cycling Club Ken Davis Salver on the Brickendon Green circuit, halfway through the series, eighteen North Roaders took part. With expected storms forcasted for that evening, it held off for the race. Five riders rode their best rides of the year, one of them being Round Nine winner Roger Bishop, came out on top, also winning overall on the night. He stormed around the course in a time of 22:46, knocking eight seconds off his previous best. Dave Candy was the runner up, just four seconds behind Roger. In third place, taking the 25 points was George Olive, with a time of 23:42. He was followed by Richard Somerset, just beating John McDowall, to take the fourth position by two seconds. Richard came past the timekeeper in 23:51. Good ride by Chris Glithero, riding his best time for two years, Chris, finished in 24:11 to take sixth position. Andy Lancaster, Alan Lancaster and Andrew Gilbert were the other three riders who rode their best times of the year. Despite coming second, Dave Candy still leads the league after 10 events with 220 points, 16 points clear of Roger.

RACE 9 -21st June

 

Records tumbled in Round Nine of the Ken Davis Salver competition. Competing on the Brickendon Green circuit, five new personal best times were set and seven riders achieved their best finishes of the season. After a fortnight’s absence, Roger Bishop returned with a vengeance, scooping top honours in a season’s best 22:54 ahead of Round Eight winner Dave Candy (22:57). Jonathan Appleby finished third in a new PB of 23:26, with George Olive (23:30 PB) and John McDowall (23:43 PB) completing the top five. Allan Mendelsohn and William Page were the other two riders to ride their PBs. Andy Lancaster, Don Hale, Malcolm Hunter and Stuart Leggett rode their best times of the year. New member Gemma Sperrin came past the time keeper in 29:52.

RACE 8 - 14th June

 

Twenty-four riders competed in the popular North Road Cycling Club’s Brickendon Green 10 with 16 North Roaders challenging for points in the Ken Davis Salver. Just as in Round six, Dave Candy took the maximum points in Round eight with a time of 23:04. The recent winner of the Furzefield Triathlon in Potters Bar had enough energy to complete another circuit of the course. The second time round he managed to ride a time of 23:55. Dave was also the overall winner on the night. Ten seconds behind was 2004 series winner Darren Rochford, who crossed the finishing line in 23:14. George Olive collected 25 points after finishing the circuit in a time two seconds inside 24 minutes. Richard Somerset and John McDowall both finished with a time of 24:04 for joint fourth place. Nick Ison rode his best time of the year with 24:56. Junior member Will Page, on his second appearance of the season, knocked 50 seconds off his first ride, past the timekeeper in 26:37. He was joined by Andy Lancaster, also riding his second ride of the year. He took 16 seconds off his previous outing with 25:05. Malcolm Hunter completed the threesome, finishing in 27:14.
