SALVER ENDS WITH 34 RIDERS

The last Salver event of the 2003 season went out with a bang, 34 riders with twenty North Roaders competing for their last points or to complete ten counting rides. With Brian Robertson the winner the silver went to Neil Lewis (91 points) and bronze to Richard Somerset (86 points), despite the absence of Neil, and Richard starting but not finishing. Brian collected the last ten points, he competed in fifteen rounds and collected maximum points. Just missing out on the medals was Darren Rochford, he just missed out of bronze medal by two points. Tim Jenkins knocked two seconds off his best for 2003. The overall winner for the second week running was Roger Bryant (Blue Sky Cycles) coming past the finishing line in 20:50.

PENULTIMATE ROUND

In the penultimate round of the Brickendon Green “10” there was another huge good turnout this time 37 riders with seventeen North Roaders riding in the Ken Davis Salver. To cater for all the riders with the light fading it was decided that riders would depart every 30 seconds. On a cool, but good night for racing, Brian Robertson collected another ten points coming p

ast the finishing line in 20:55. In second place was Darren Rochford past the timekeeper in 23:01 for nine points and twenty seconds behind was Richard Somerset, for eight points. Andy Gilbert rode his PB with a time of 28:30. Gian Altomare, Chris Bullock and Tim Jenkins recorded their best times for 2003. The overall winner was Roger Bryant (Blue Sky Cycles) in a fast time of 20:37. Del Evans just missed out by one second his first point of the season. Unfortunately for Richard Norris, he punctured and Graham Thompson had mechanical problems.

38 RIDERS IN THE POPULAR EVENT

Coming towards the end of the Brickendon Green “10” series and on a cooler night, there was a record turnout of 38 riders taking part in the most popular club event in the area. Eighteen riders from North Road competed in Round, with the silver and bronze medals up for grabs. The winner again was Brian Robertson with a time of 21:13. In second place was Neil Lewis with a time of 22:44. The race for the bronze medals is hotting up with Darren Rochford luckily grabbing third position by one second over Richard Somerset. North Road’s new member Richard Norris rode his first Brickendon Green “10” coming past the finishing line in 26:11.

WHAT A TURNOUT! 33 RIDERS

A massive thirty three riders rode in the Brickendon Green “10” with fifteen North Roaders competing, in hot conditions with a light breeze. In the absence of the winner and Richard Somerset, Neil Lewis made sure of getting maximum points in the battle for the silver medal. Neil came past the timekeeper in 22:04. He tied for overall winner with Mark Allen (Cyclone Cycles). Runner-up was Darren Rochford, also chasing a medal position, fifty seconds behind. A good ride by Bruce Metheringham coming in third position with his best time of the year. Also riding his best time of the year was Tim Jenkins.

TWO SECONDS AWAY

Round 16 of the Ken Davis Salver at Brickendon Green and Brian Robertson was back, just two seconds away from breaking his personal best and the Club Record for the Brickendon Green circuit with a time of 20:47. Richard was second with a time of 23:30.

THREE TOUGH NORTH ROADERS

In Round 15 of the Ken Davis Salver, three North Roaders braved the wet weather. With the Salver clinched by Brian Robertson, the silver and bronze medals are up for grabs and Richard took full advantage and collected ten points, in a time of 24:04, followed by Chris Glithero with a time of 25:15 with Roger Bishop finishing in third position with a time of 25:31.

ROUND 14 – 2003 KEN DAVIS SALVER “10”, BRICKENDON GREEN 

SECOND WEEK RUNNING FOR DARREN

In Round 14 of the Ken Davis Salver in breezy conditions, only one rider improved his time from Round 13; Darren Rochford took four seconds off his personal best from last week, coming in second place, one minute and forty three seconds behind overall winner Brian Robertson. Brian has ridden eleven rides and gained maximum points so far. He takes the Salver for the second year running. The battle is now on for the silver and bronze medals. North Road’s new lady recruit Marsha Jenkins rode her first Ken Davis Salver event, finishing with a time of 29:22.
