ROUND 1 – 2003 KEN DAVIS SALVER “10”, BRICKENDON GREEN

It was a sunny evening, a perfect night for racing and spectating at the first round of the Brickendon Green “10” Competition and the first night of the Summer Club Room. A good turnout of riders, twenty seven in all, fifteen from the North Road – competing in the Ken Davis Salver Competition – The Brickendon Green “10” was back on it’s original circuit – last year it was disrupted by road works, and had to use the two shorter circuits – Brian Robertson, last year’s winner was away with other North Roaders in the mountains of Majorca. It was a good night for Peter Nunn. After a serious back operation last year, he was back on his bike, and with a determined ride completed the course in a very fast time of 23:08, taking advantage of Brian’s absence to gain the first ten points of the season. Pete came in second on the night, only five seconds away from the leader, Dave Candy (Team Arctic– Rochford-Shorter) who came past Graham Thompson, timekeeper, in a time of 23:03. Runner-up to Pete was the 2001 winner, Neil Lewis, coming across the line in 23:51, to collect nine points, and finishing third overall. North Road’s new member, Darren Rochford riding last year as a guest, collected eight points with a time of 24:14.
